Pet Story:
Fanny was the most remarkable dog I've ever known. Terrier's are known for their love of water, but Fanny took this love to the extreme. My husband and I are "water people"; Fanny fit right in. She liked to swim, fish, sail, and ride.
Mention that we were going to the lake and she would throw herself at the door until we put her in the car. The photo shows how comfortable she was on the water. She's sound asleep on the bow - which can be pretty bouncy even when the driver is paying attention.
She loved to sail and it didn't seem to matter how windy it was. She got so good that when we got ready to turn the boat and called "Ready About", she'd get up and move to the other side of the boat.
She loved to "fish". She'd wait under the dock for a fish to swim by, paws resting on the crosstie, and then jump over it, head first with jaws open. In the 16 years she was with us, she never did catch anything, but it wasn't for lack of trying.
She is buried near the "boat yard", a section on our land where we keep the boats in winter. She was buried with a bosun's whistle and a beer, which she loved. This way she can pipe herself on-board, pop a beer and join the party.
