Pet Memorial Questions
Questions in this section relate to creating and editing a Pet Memorial and how to upload your pet photos and the photo size requirements.
How do I submit a Pet Memorial?
First, you have to register on the site. Once you have registered on the site and activated you account, log in to your account by clicking on "My Account".
Once the My Account / Log In page opens, enter your username and password and click the "Log in" button. This opens the "Submit/Edit a Pet Memorial" page.
To submit/create a new memorial, click "New", which opens the "Submit/Edit a Pet Memorial" form. Fill in the appropriate information, upload your pet photo and memorial text you want to include.
To edit an existing article, click the check box next to the pet memorial you want to edit and click the "Edit" button. This will open the memorial you want to change or finish, in case you didn't get the chance to do so when you originally created it.
There are two memorial text boxes. The first, Memorial Introduction, is limited to 300 characters. There is a counter to show you how many characters remain. This is the text that will show on the Pet Memorial page. The reason for this is to limit the size of the memorials ONLY on the Pet Memorial page. Your pet memorial may be as long as you wish. If your memorial is longer than the 300 character limit, add the remaining text in the "Additional Memorial Text" box. Using the "Additional Memorial Text" box automatically creates a "Read More..." button. Your entire memorial will be visible your pet's individual memorial page.
Once you're finished, click "Save & Close". If you are satisfied with your article, don't forget to publish it! Otherwise it won't be viewable on the site.
The edits I've made in my Pet Memorial don't show.
Empty your browser's cache. More than likely it's showing an earlier page stored in the cache. Then refresh the your pet memorial page.
Can I see my Pet Memorial before I publish it?
Yes you can.
While you are logged in, open the site in another tab or window and go to the Pet Memorial page. All unpublished have a light gray background.
Make the changes you want, click "Save". Refresh the Pet Memorial page and you should see the changes you just made. You may need to clear your internet browser's cache; depending on its settings it may show you the cached page and not the newer one. Another trick is to refresh the page twice.
How many Pet Memorials can I submit?
You may create a pet memorial for each of the pets you've lost.
The "Read More..." button doesn't appear on my Pet Memorial.
The "Read More..." button is created automatically if text is entered in the "Additional Memorial Text" box. If your Pet Memorial is less than the 300 character limit in the "Memorial Introduction", the site won't create the "Read More..." button.
Clicking on the "Read More..." button will open a pet's individual Pet Memorial page. If you included text in the "Additional Memorial Text" box you will see your entire memorial on your pet's page.
We set it up this way to manage the length of each memorial on the Pet Memorial pages, but didn't want to limit the length of a memorial. We hope you understand.
Is a purchase required in order to post a Pet Memorial?
No. No purchase is required. Paw Prints on My Heart is a free online memorial. In fact, if you are giving a Paw Prints on My Heart Keepsake to a friend or family member, don't forget to let them know that they can leave a pet memorial for their beloved pet.
Can I post a memorial if I purchased a keepsake through a retailer?
Absolutely. No purchase is necessary to post a pet memorial. We hope you will, but it isn't required.
I can't see my Pet Memorial on the Pet Memorial's page.
Did you remember to publish it? If not, enter your account, find your memorial, click the box next to it and click the "Edit" button at the top of the list. Once your memorial opens, change "Publish" from Unpublished to Published. Click "Save and Close" button. Check the Pet Memorial page to make sure it's there. If not, please contact us.
What's the difference between "Save & Close" and "Save" on the Pet Memorial form?
"Save" will save your memorial, but won't close the window. In fact, we recommend that you to "Save" your form right after you upload your pet's photo. "Save & Close" does just that. It saves your memorial and closes the window.
Can someone else change my pet listing?
What's the "alias" mentioned in the Pet Memorial form?
The name you see in the "Created by" column on the "Submit/Edit a Pet Memorial" page is the username of the person who created the memorial. If you would rather use your own name or some other "alias", enter that information in this box. It is not required.
Pet Memorial Photo Questions
Questions about pet memorial photos are answered in this section.
Is a pet photo required?
No, but we hope you will include one.
Why can't I upload my pet's photo?
More than likely it's because it is too large or not a "dot jpeg" (.jpeg) or "dot jpg" (.jpg) file.
- Photo Type: "dot" jpg or "dot" jpeg. No other formats are allowed.
- Photo Size: No larger than 200 kilobytes. (200KB)
- Photo Name: Use your pet's name to name the photo - no spaces, please, if your pet's name has more than one name. For example: "Pretty Boy" would become "PrettyBoy". The image name you might see on your computer might be "Pretty Boy" or if your computer shows file extensions, "Pretty Boy.jpg". Simply rename it to "PrettyBoy" or "PrettyBoy.jpg".
- Photo Dimensions: Square. Ideal site dimensions are 3 inches by 3 inches or 290 pixels by 290 pixels. All images will be re-sized to fit with the ideal image space.
I don't know much about internet images, can you help?
Most cameras either shoot a jpg file or photos can be downloaded from the camera saved as jpg files. If your camera is set to photograph "print quality" photos, more than likely they will larger than restrictions. For example, almost all cameras shoot photos in mult-megabyte sizes; a 5 megabyte image is 25 times larger than allowed by the website.
There are free photo editing software applications available. Look for one that allows for editing the "dots per inch" or "pixels per inch" and/or allows for photos to be "cropped".
"Print quality" photos are shot at 300 pixels per inch (ppi). Computers only need 96 ppi. If you can edit a photo using only ppi, this will more than likely create a copy that can be uploaded. Resize your image from its current ppi to 96 ppi and check the photo size to see if its less than 200KB.
If after editing the ppi your image is still too large, you will need to crop it. This means it's dimensions will need to be reduced. The ideal photo size for the site is 3 inches (290 pixels) by 3 inches (290 pixels). If your image isn't or can't be proportionally resized to these dimensions, this site will automatically fit it into the space provided for pet images.
This is only a cursory overview. Additional detailed information is available on the internet if you need more than this overview.

I registered, but can't access my account.
You probably haven't activated your account, yet.
After you register, an email will be sent to the email address you entered to register with an activation link. Clicking the link opens an "account activation" window on Paw Prints on My Heart website. You will see a notification that your account has been activated and places to enter your username and password. You can now enter the site to post your Pet Memorial.
If your email set up doesn't allow for active links, simply copy the entire address and paste it into the address bar of your internet browser. These addresses are long, sometimes two line; be sure to copy all of the address.
If you don't receive an email, be sure to check your spam guard. More than likely it was "trapped" and you'll find it there. Another place to look is in your "Deleted" folder; sometimes emails can get sent there by mistake.
I pasted the activation address into my browser and it didn't work.
More than likely some part of the address wasn't copied. These address are long, sometimes extending over two rows. Be sure to copy all of it, including the characters on the other row and try again. This should do it. If you are still having trouble, please contact us and we will help.
I never received an "Account Activation Email". What do I do now?
First, check your spam guard software. More than likely the activation email was caught by it. Another possibility is that it was forwarded by mistake to your "Deleted" email folder.
If you have checked all of the places our email might be and still can't find it, send us an email via "Contact Us" with your Username and the email address you used to create your account. We can activate your account manually.

What do you do with my personal information?
This section lists questions that don't fit into the other categories.
I don't see my question listed.
No problem, simply "Contact Us" with your question. We will respond as quickly as possible. Additionally, we appreciate you asking it. We will add your question and our answer to the FAQ page. Hopefully, your question may help someone else.
Will you write a sympathy card for me if the keepsake is sent directly to the recipient?
Yes, we will. There is a section, "Optional Sympathy Card Message" beside each Keepsake. Fill in what you want. Your message is included in your order confirmation. We will write it on a sympathy card and send it with your gift.
However, this service is not available to those who take advantage of the "free shipping" option. All of the Keepsakes will be sent to the purchaser and will include a Sympathy Card. They will have to personally complete the sympathy card and main each gift individually.
The Sympathy Message won't let me include all I want to say.
It will, but please remember, the sympathy card is only 3 1/2 inches by 2 inches, so a long message isn't possible.
However, there are two Message sections: "Optional Sympathy Card Message" and "(Continued Message)". The first is limited to 60 characters and won't accept any more. The second is in case you need a little more space to finish your sympathy message. Simply finish your message in the "(Continued Message)" box.
Will there be any more pet memorial keepsakes?
Yes, we are working on additional items to offer as memorial keepsakes. Check back or look for an email announcing the addition of new items.
How do you know where to send my Pet Memorial Keepsake?
When you "check out" at PayPal, there is a section that asks where you want the Keepsake to be sent. This is how we're informed of your recipient's name and address. That information is included in the order confirmation sent to us by PayPal.
How do I print the "Actual Size" image on the shop page?
Right click the "Actual Size" image. This will open an on-screen dropdown menu. Click on the "View Image" link. A new window will open showing only the image. Use the "Print" function in the "File" menu. This should give you an image that closely approximates the actual size. Please understand personalized printer settings may change the image's dimensions.
